How do I start?
If you are interested in Karate and Self Defence, find a Karate Club
near to you on our locations
page. There are dozens of Karate classes in many areas from which
a new beginner can choose. No special clothing is required to start. Just
visit on any of the days and times listed on our Club Locations page,
and our secretary will assist with your enrolment and answer any questions
that you may have. You can start your Karate training there and then or
simply watch a class in progress before you decide to start.

Clubs wishing to join SKE

Karate Belts and Gradings
Karate Gradings are held every three months and at these gradings you can test to see how much progress you have made from efforts in your Karate Classes. As a new beginner you will start with a White Belt, but as you progress through the grades you will be awarded different coloured belts. The belts are awarded in this order; Orange, Red, Yellow, Green, Purple, Purple & White, Brown and subsequently Black Belt or Shodan. Pre-Grading Courses are always held to revise and assist you with your progess. Regular attendance at your Karate Club will ensure you get good results.

with top international instructors are best booked in advance, as these

GCSE and The Duke of Edinburgh Award
A number of our members have taken karate as a GCSE subject at School
or College and we are now able to offer Karate as a choice PE subject
used by some GCSE examining bodies. Members can study karate and qualify
with us as a part of their GCSE and A level examination.
We have also qualified a number of our students for the Duke of
Edinburgh Award using karate as one of their achievements.
Instructors, Black Belts and Senior Grades
SKE Black and Brown Belts have special classes available,
which are designed for their more advanced level. Please look on our Club
Locations page for the times of these popular and more advanced classes.
We also have an Instructor Training and Qualification Program
in place, and so if you have the interest and desire to qualify as a Karate
Instructor we can help and support you with all the necessary
advice and information.
Parents, Children and Karate
For the peace of mind of all parents and young people, and in line with
general educational principles, club instructors all carry Enhanced
